Keep realistic expectations
These tables are exactly what they should be. They are inexpensive, unfinished furniture, made from the kind of wood that will have variability, some flaws and cracks, etc. They require some adjustments during assembly, and some patience. However, with that being said, these tables are an EXCELLENT value, and are perfect for what we wanted for our family room in our log home. We put on a few coats of wipe-on satin polyurethane, and they look awesome. The top surface is smooth and flat, and the cracks in the legs add a nice individual "character" to the pieces.

Bought these end tables for our camp. They match our futon. very nice.
